Editorial

WanAgara FC’s decision to elevate Abubakar Sani from assistant to interim head coach is more than just a pragmatic solution it’s a vote of confidence in continuity and internal growth. In grassroots football, where frequent changes and instability can disrupt momentum, this approach brings a level of calm and clarity as the NLO season looms.

Sani knows the players, the system, and the culture of the club. That familiarity can often be more valuable than high-profile appointments. As the club prepares to face Flight FC, what they need most is focus, not fanfare.

The move also speaks to a broader trend in Nigerian lower league football building from within. Giving assistants the chance to lead promotes mentorship, encourages career progression, and preserves team chemistry. And let’s face it NLO clubs are not always afforded the luxury of time or deep pockets for external recruitment.

What matters now is how Sani takes this opportunity. A solid start to the season will strengthen his claim to the role permanently. WanAgara FC have made their move now it’s time for results to follow.
